Frankfurt ZOO

Frankfurt am Main Zoo

If you are ever looking for a great place for you and your family to spend the afternoon, the Frankfurt ZOO is the answer. Located conveniently in the center of the city, it is easily accessible by car as well as public transportation. However, parking can be a problem sometimes, especially when the weather is really nice and the Zoo is really crowded. We would recommend taking the underground line U6/U7 and getting out directly at the ZOO station. Another option is tram 14 which will also take you directly to the ZOO. If you are not in a lazy Sunday kind of mood, why not walk from the Zeil area to the Zoo? It will take you less than 15 minutes.

The fact that the Frankfurt Zoo was established in 1858 and that it is one of the oldest zoological gardens in the world is another reason why you should visit it. In the surroundings, which are as natural as possible, the Zoo offers more than 500 unique species of animals, with over 4500 animals in total for you and your family to observe.

The Exotarium is another part of the ZOO that is worth visiting. You will be amazed by the diversity of fish, reptiles, amphibians and insects that can be observed here. One thing you should not miss is the feeding of the piranhas. This usually takes place on Sundays at 11 in the morning. Please check the official ZOO site for more details on the feeding times of different animals.

Frankfurt ZOO

This is not just a simple Zoo. The Zoo offer different playgrounds for your children as well as various lunch/snack options like the Zoo terrace, known for having a magnificent view. Regrettably, the terrace is closed during the winter period. For those who do not like the meal options offered in the ZOO, you can always eat at Pizza Hut just opposite the Zoo entrance.

Here’s a little hint for those who are planning to visit the Zoo during a cold day, hoping to avoid the crowd: Don’t do it! Most of the animals are cold and are hidden in their homes. Sure, the Zoo will be less crowded, but you’ll have a hard time seeing any of the animals.
